The Community

Located along the coastline of Kerala, SKaSTA is nestled in a quite neighbourhood of Kovalam. Less than 200m away from Lighthouse Beach, we are surrounded by a small community of homestays, hotels, restaurants, ayurvedic centers and family homes.

Kovalam is renowned for relaxed health focused tourism, ayurveda, and swimming friendly beaches.

The weather in Kovalam is ideal for yoga āsanas, with average high temperatures ranging from 29°C to 35°C. The monsoon season, which typically begins around June and extends through September, brings a refreshing coolness to the air, enhancing the rejuvenating atmosphere for offseason immersions.

During your free time you can explore a variety of activities, including swimming, surfing, kayaking, and dolphin watching. For those interested in ayurvedic programs before or after your immersion, Ayurvedic massage and Panchakarma treatments are available in many centers in the village.

There are also many beaches to explore nearby including Vizhinjam, Samudra, Grove, and Grow Beaches just a walk or short scooter or taxi ride away.

Kanyakumari, the southernmost tip of India, Varkala Beach, and the Neyyar Wildlife Sanctuary are possible to see during the free days. Thiruvananthapuram is a large city within 30 mins taxi, auto rickshaw or bus ride from Kovalam. All the amenities of a modern city are available here. The Thiruvananthapuram Airport (TRV) is 15 km from Kovalam offering easy international and domestic access.

Our Beach Village Home

We understand that in order to truly learn and create new behavior patterns we need to be in a relaxed environment. At the same time, Tantra is about culturing ourselves to find harmony in everyday life. This is why we decided to settle in Kovalam. Kovalam is a small beach community in Kerala, South India. There are many Ayurvedic centers, organic/health focused restaurants, and family owned homestays making it a wonderful combination of being in the world and also relaxed and soft. In this environment you can learn to culture deep relaxation and dis-cover your natural, blissful self. Once that blissful self is dis-covered and integrated, you can take that bliss everywhere you go. We are excited to share this peaceful setting with you to relax and celebrate in community.

We have a three room home and rooftop yoga shala as our base for school programs. We have a variety of other accommodations available to meet different needs.

For many of us, time at SKaSTA is an opportunity to be out of the city and in community. We want you to be able to take advantage of the richness of kerala culture and landscape, so we have designed our programs and facilities to include ample time and space to exploring, study and practice. As a Tantric community we celebrate all expressions of life and invite you to join us to learn to celebrate all aspects of life.

Food

We are blessed to have a veteran chef, Babu, as part of the SKaSTA family this season. Babu has been cooking in Kovalam for over 30 years and has experience with local as well as international cuisine. Light breakfast, full lunch and dinner will be provided 5 days a week.

School holidays, Wednesday and Saturday, will be time for us to explore and enjoy the many different food offerings in Kovalam. In Kovalam, dining is a delight for the senses, offering a diverse range of options to suit every taste. Seafood is a highlight for many with fresh catches from the Arabian Sea used for unique Kerala style grilled fish, prawn curries, seafood biryanis, and so mush more. International cuisine is also abundant, with restaurants offering pizza, Indo-Chinese cuisine, and continental classics.

Vegetarian and non-vegetarian fare is plentiful, featuring traditional Kerala thalis, dosas, idlis, curries, grilled items and Ayurvedic meals prepared with fresh, locally sourced ingredients. Sweet treats abound, including coconut-based payasams, banana fritters, and jalebis. Whether you’re a food enthusiast or simply looking to satisfy your hunger, Kovalam’s culinary scene offers something for everyone, where every meal is an opportunity to experience the flavors of Kerala’s rich culinary heritage
